Visit Alexandria

What started as a 3-year contract for a quaint and historic small city nestled along the Potomac River (a stone’s throw from D.C.) turned into a beautiful and rewarding 6-year relationship with the greatest group of people I’ve ever worked with … hands-down. The work below doesn’t even scratch the surface of what we produced together. From traditional advertising, digital, and social to event promotions, signage, and even the banners that hang from their street lamps—there wasn’t a touchpoint I didn’t—well—touch.

While serving as their creative agency-of-record, I helped this acclaimed tourism destination attract visitors from the fly, drive, local, and abroad markets for vacationers, day travelers, and meeting planners. Also on my watch, they were ranked as one of the Top 5 Best Small Cities in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler readers for four consecutive years—overlapping the pandemic!

Stay in the moment.

In 2019, Visit Alexandria was ready for a new branding campaign aimed at the fly and drive markets. While a destination in its own right, Alexandria is also the perfect home base for the D.C. visitor. With that in mind, we produced 15-second pre-roll videos, as well as display, social and print ads encouraging D.C. travelers to book their stay, just minutes away, in charming and historic Alexandria, VA.

Record scratch.

COVID hit. The campaign was shelved. All travel stopped. No tourists or business travelers to fill hotels. No shoppers. No diners. With the world in lockdown, there was no tourism to sustain the business community. Countless jobs were at stake as well as consumption tax revenues used to support core City services. Visit Alexandria quickly turned its attention inward and focused its efforts on connecting residents and surrounding communities with Alexandria shops, restaurants, and organizations—playing an instrumental role in the survival and rebound of Alexandria’s tourism economy. And I was happy to make them look good and tell their story along the way.
